| Abstract | Modern aerospace gas turbine engines operate at extremely high temperatures to achieve higher efficiency and performance. These severe conditions require materials with excellent high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and oxidation stability. Nickel-based superalloys and advanced ceramic matrix composites are widely used in turbine components due to their superior mechanical and thermal properties. However, prolonged exposure to high temperatures and aggressive environments leads to degradation mechanisms such as oxidation, hot corrosion, and thermal fatigue. To mitigate these effects, protective coating systems are applied to critical components. Advanced coatings, including thermal barrier coatings based on yttria-stabilized zirconia, reduce the metal temperature and extend component life. Bond coats and environmental barrier coatings further enhance resistance to oxidation and corrosion. The integration of high-temperature materials with advanced coating technologies plays a crucial role in improving the durability and performance of modern aerospace gas turbine systems. |
