The 49th Vietnam Conference on Theoretical Physics

From July 30 to August 2, 2024, the Center for Theoretical Physics and the Center for Computational Physics of the Institute of Physics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), in collaboration with the Vietnam Theoretical Physics Society, successfully organized the 49th Vietnam Conference on Theoretical Physics. The event was sponsored by the International Center for Physics (Institute of Physics, VAST) and the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (Pohang, South Korea).

Over nearly half a century, the Vietnam Conference on Theoretical Physics (formerly known as the National Conference on Theoretical Physics) has become an annual event and a prestigious academic forum for presenting and discussing new results in theoretical physics by both Vietnamese and international researchers.

This year's conference brought together 125 participants from more than 40 universities and research institutes across 9 countries. The event was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Minh Tiến, Director of the Center for Theoretical Physics and President of the Vietnam Theoretical Physics Society, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Huy Việt from the Center for Computational Physics, Head of the Organizing Committee. Prof. Dr. Bạch Thành Công, former President of the Society, was also in attendance.

The conference commenced with a brief opening session, followed by the presentation of the 2024 Young Researcher Award by the Vietnam Theoretical Physics Society to Dr. Võ Khương Điền from Dong Nai University of Technology. His work focused on exciton physics and its potential applications in two-dimensional materials. The Young Researcher Award, established in 2010, is presented annually to outstanding researchers under the age of 35 who are official members of the Society and have demonstrated excellent research achievements over the past three years. The award continues to receive growing interest and recognition from young scientists in Vietnam and abroad.

Over the four days of the conference, participants presented and discussed 13 invited talks, 17 oral presentations, and 70 poster presentations across a wide range of topics: fundamental particle physics, nuclear and astrophysics; molecular physics, quantum optics, and quantum information; condensed matter physics; soft matter physics, biophysics, and interdisciplinary physics. The conference sparked lively discussions and provided valuable insights. The conference not only showcased cutting-edge research but also created opportunities for collaboration between Vietnamese and international scientists. Selected presentations will undergo peer review for publication in Communications in Physics.

Beyond the academic sessions, the conference featured cultural and social activities to promote networking and exchange. Participants visited historical and cultural landmarks in Hue, including the Imperial City, Thien Mu Pagoda, the Tombs of Khai Dinh and Tu Duc, and other iconic sites.

The conference concluded successfully, safely, and fruitfully.
