The 13th International Conference on Photonics and Applications (ICPA-13)
The International Conference on Photonics and Applications (ICPA) is currently a series of specialized international physics conferences organized biennially in Vietnam since 2000. It is jointly held by the Institute of Physics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), in collaboration with the Vietnam Optical Society, the Vietnam Physical Society, and various national and international research and educational institutions.

The Conference has become a prestigious scientific forum and a meeting point for international and Vietnamese scientists in the fields of optics, spectroscopy, photonics, and their applications. It provides an opportunity for scientists to present their latest research results of global interest and promotes the development of international research collaborations and joint scientific projects.
This year, the 13th International Conference on Photonics and Applications (ICPA-13) was held at the Institute of Physics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) from October 14 to October 17, 2024. ICPA-13 gathered nearly 250 scientists from 13 countries and territories, including Japan, France, South Korea, Russia, Belarus, Australia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

ICPA-13 featured 175 scientific presentations, including 65 oral presentations and 110 poster presentations, divided into six thematic sessions covering topics such as:Optics, Spectroscopy, and Lasers; Photonics (nanophotonics, devices, materials, modeling, etc.); Solid-state Optics and Nanostructured Materials; Applications of Optics, Spectroscopy, and Lasers; Optical Devices and Components; Nonlinear Optics, Laser and Fiber Optic Technologies

Through the discussion and exchange sessions at the conference, many ideas for international collaboration were initiated, contributing to the enhancement of scientific knowledge and research capacity not only for domestic scientists but also for scientists around the world. In addition, with modern and up-to-date topics, ICPA-13 provided opportunities for young scientists to connect and learn from leading global experts in the field of photonics and its applications. This helps assess the current development level of the field and identify the necessary conditions to promote its advancement in Vietnam in the near future.Notably, a delegation of scientists from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russian Federation, presented their latest research results and participated in roundtable discussions with other scientists. These activities aimed to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and JINR, as well as to encourage greater participation from scientists in the region and internationally.

After four days of active and enthusiastic work, ICPA-13 concluded successfully, leaving a deep and lasting impression of both the Vietnamese people and the country in the eyes of international friends. The event has gradually affirmed its important role and become a highly anticipated meeting point for the domestic and international scientific research community in the fields of photonics, optics, and their applications. The success of ICPA-13 has made a significant contribution to enhancing Vietnam’s position in scientific research and demonstrating our ability to organize high-level international conferences on a global scale.
