Simulation of the Talbot Effect in Nonlinear Binary Waveguide Arrays

We numerically investigate the influence of Kerr-type nonlinearity on the Talbot effect in binary waveguide arrays (BWAs). The nonlinear Talbot effect is observed over a broad range of input intensities for transverse periods (N = 1) and (N = 2). For (N = 2), a sharp switching behavior emerges depending on the excitation of waveguides with lower or higher effective refractive indices under self-focusing or self-defocusing nonlinearity, respectively. In contrast, for (N = 3, 4,) and (6), nonlinearity suppresses the Talbot effect even at low input intensities. Reference: [1] Minh C. Tran, Hue M. Nguyen, Dzung C. Duong, Quang Nguyen-The, Truong X.
