Double exchange altermagnetism in the Lieb lattice

Institute of Physics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

We investigate the emergence of altermagnetism in the two dimensional Lieb lattice by combining a double exchange framework with dynamical mean field theory (DMFT). The magnetic ground state configuration is obtained through energy minimization of localized spins coupled to itinerant electrons via Hund interaction. Our results demonstrate that the next nearest neighbor hopping integral plays a crucial role in breaking the lattice symmetry and stabilizing an altermagnetic phase. The calculated momentum resolved spectral functions exhibit a characteristic $d_{x^2-y^2}$-type spin splitting, providing a clear signature of altermagnetism despite the absence of net magnetization. These findings reveal how the interplay between lattice geometry, Hund coupling, and next nearest neighbor hopping promotes altermagnetic order in the Lieb lattice and offer insights into the realization of altermagnetism in itinerant magnetic systems.
