Ferromagnetism is one of the most fundamental phenomena in condensed matter physics. Understanding the conditions for ferromagnetic order as well as designing materials exhibiting this physics is important because of the wide range of applications. In this work, we will review the conditions for ferromagnetism in the two-dimensional Hubbard model with square and triangular lattices, starting from the long-standing Stoner criterion to a more quantitative extension of this criterion for itinerant ferromagnetic order. In particular, we consider ferromagnetism in a special kind of triangular lattice that includes spin-valley locking effect, mimicking the flat bands of several twisted transition metal dichalcogenide structures. This work will shed more light into the ferromagnetism in these twisted structures, allowing for the design of materials that maximizes this effect.
