AbstractUnlike the conventional spin Hall effect (SHE) generated by the spin-orbit interaction which requires space-inversion-symmetry (SIS) breaking, we show that SHE can emerge in a broad class of many-body systems with SIS. Here the SHE arises from the dipole-dipole interaction (DDI) between particles which preserves SIS. As a concrete example, we show both analytically and numerically that the SHE can be observed in a system of ultracold heteronuclear molecules in an optical lattice. The DDI-induced SHE offers a complementary tool to generate spin currents, which constitutes an essential ingredient in spintronics.
