AbstractDynamical mean fi eld approximation (DMFT) is widely used in solving strongly correlated electron models. The advantage of dynamical mean fi eld theory is that it considers the local quantum fluctuations which is much more important in the strongly interacting systems. The local nature of quantum fluctuations is fortunately captured in the single impurity Anderson model so that the real in finite lattice problems are replaced by fi nite lattice problems which are feasibly solved. In this talk, I will present an overview about the success of the dynamical mean field theory applied in a simple model like the single band Hubbard model and I will introduce a brief review about further developments, for example, cluster DMFT, DMFT for heterostructures.
