Hardware

The lab's computing needs are served by a number of servers and clusters housed in a custom-designed computer room. All machines run Red Hat Linux.
Each lab member has his/her own Linux workstation and Windows NT workstation and access to a vast array of programs and resources.
We have a dedicated email, web, and programs servers. In addition there is over 200Gb of data space available to lab members, provided by a RAID based Linux server.

A further 200Gb RAID Linux system provides access to mirrors of the latest protein structural (e.g. PDB) and genomic data (e.g. human genome), as well as MySQL facilities for databases derived in the lab.

Computational jobs are run on two powerful and state-of-the-art Linux clusters. A 96 800MHz Intel Pentium III cluster (each node has 1Gb of RAM) is used for genomic work and general calculations. A 24 Alpha 667MHz processor cluster (again each node has 1Gb of RAM) is used for more floating point-intensive work such as VLS and protein-protein docking.
