AutoNom

AutoNom (Automatic Nomenclature) is a chemical-name-generating program that assigns systematic IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) chemical names to drawn structures in seconds.

AutoNom is available in two versions. AutoNom Standard is a licensed version of AutoNom that is available at no cost to ISIS users and users of MDL CrossFire Commander. AutoNom 2000 is an advanced version (available as an upgrade) that provides stereoisomer IUPAC names and support for CAS ring-system naming conventions. Both products are offered under license from MDL Information Systems GmbH.

Highlights of AutoNom 2000:

  • Ability to name stereoisomers: AutoNom automatically provides accurate names for stereoisomers, designating R,S configurations for chiral compounds and E,Z descriptors for geometrical isomers.
  • Support for CAS ring-system naming conventions: AutoNom has always included Beilstein's preferred variants of the IUPAC rules for defining ring systems. However, CAS nomenclature differs for some ring systems. With AutoNom, scientists can choose between CAS and Beilstein ring-naming conventions or display both names simultaneously.
  • Ability to number atom locants within named structures: Correct atom numeration of one structure simplifies nomenclature for its derivatives. While AutoNom has always numbered atoms in input structures prior to naming them, numeration previously displayed only the alphanumeric position of functional groups or prefixes. AutoNom 2000 now gives researchers the option to display nomenclature-based atom numeration directly in input structures.

Scientists can use AutoNom 2000 in the following ways:

AutoNom 2000 Add-in with ISIS/Draw, ISIS/Base, and Commander CrossFire Commander V6

Add the power of AutoNom to ISIS/Draw, ISIS/Base, CrossFire Commander V6, and MDL's database products. Name structures created in ISIS/Draw with a single click of a button. If you build or use chemical databases with ISIS/Base, you can generate chemical names "on the fly" when registering or browsing structures.

The free AutoNom Standard Add-in for MDL ISIS/Desktop adds basic IUPAC naming functionality to ISIS/Draw and ISIS/Base. ISIS/Draw is recommended as the default structure editor for both ISIS/Base and CrossFire Commander V6.

ISIS customers wishing to upgrade to the full AutoNom 2000 Add-in product, which includes stereochemistry, can do so through MDL Information Systems GmbH for the low price of 695 Euros (US$599) per seat.

Integrating AutoNom 2000 TT for Batch Naming or custom applications

If you want to integrate the power of AutoNom 2000 with another Windows application, AutoNom 2000 TT is for you. Callable DLLs allow you to incorporate automatic chemical naming with the application of your choice. You can customize AutoNom 2000 TT to name files in batches.
