ProgrammeP.2 -- Poster Date: Friday, 24 November 2017> Time: 10:30 - 11:20> Generation and characterization of Pearcey beams with vortex for possible application in STED microscopyRalph Thomas Maestre1*, Alvin Baclig1, Randy Joseph Fernandez1, and Nathaniel Hermosa2 1University of the Philippines Manila, Manila City, Ermita 1000 2National Institute of Physics, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, Diliman 1101 Pearcey beam, formed from a parabolic diffraction slit, is a new addition to the family of paraxial beams which offers a unique set of characteristics such as form inversion at focus, form invariance, auto-focusing, and self-healing. These features of the Pearcey beam could be advantageous when used as an alternative de-excitation beam in current systems of Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscopy. The beam’s wave front profile is manipulated made to interfere to produce a new Pearcey beam with a vortex in the axis of propagation. This study intends to produce Pearcey beams and Pearcey beams with vortex from light propagating from a parabolic slit and to characterize the beam and its relation to varying source geometry and wave front profile through simulation.
