Kenneth G. Wilson, Juan M. Maldacena, and Stephen W. Hawking: The reason why a condensed matter theorist has to study black hole physics

Ki-Seok Kim

APCTP&POSTECH, Korea

In these two semi-lecture series, I explain why I have to study black hole physics as a condensed matter physics theorist. First, I introduce and overview well-known long standing condensed matter physics problems, all of which require non-perturbative calculation methods. Second, I introduce three well-established theoretical frameworks, developed by Kenneth G. Wilson (Renormalization group: RG), Juan M. Maldacena (Dual holography), and Stephen W. Hawking (Black hole entropy), and discuss how these three theoretical frameworks are related and inter-connected to develop for the last two decades. Finally, I explain how to "derive" the dual holography framework for strongly correlated systems, starting from the Wilson's RG method, and discuss the role of mathematically emergent black hole physics in understanding the non-perturbative dynamics of strongly correlated electrons.
