Electronic Structure of Ultrathin FeSe Films on SrTiO3 Studied with Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy

The FeSe material has the simplest crystal structure among Fe-based superconductors. Single-layer FeSe on SrTiO3 substrates exhibit the most substantial superconducting gap, measuring approximately 20 meV. This gap corresponds to a higher critical temperature (Tc) of approximately 65 K, going over the bulk Tc of 9 K. The discovery of potential high-temperature superconductivity in monolayer FeSe on SrTiO3 has opened a new frontier in this field because of the properties of FeSe film, such as the role of the substrate. Most likely causes of increased superconductivity are charge transfer from the substrate and interface coupling. In this work, we would like to understand the mechanism that enhances superconductivity in monolayer FeSe films on SrTiO3 and other factors that relate to this system. Our monolayer and multilayer FeSe films will be grown on SrTiO3 substrates using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE). Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) is a tool to characterize the electronic structure of the samples.
