Random Walk and Diffusion in Composite Material

Random walk and diffusion processes are used to model many physical, biological, chemical, and social systems. In the most basic diffusion models, the diffusion coefficient and the bias parameter are taken to be uniform and constant; while in the most basic random walk models, the transition probabilities are taken to uniform and constant. But there are systems where heterogeneity must be accounted for. Heterogeneity can manifest as time- or space-dependence of the diffusion coefficient, bias parameter, or transition probability. It can also manifest in the form of favored resetting sites. In this study, we solve for the the nonequilibrium stationary state of a biased diffusion with stochastic resetting in a linear composite material that can be divided up to three regions. These regions affect the Brownian particle by its resetting rate. We use three models. Model A has two media and their resetting site is at the interface between the two regions. Model B and C has three regions. The difference between Models B and C is the location of the resetting site where the resetting site is between two regions. We acknowledge that Models B and C can be treated as the same as Model A where the resetting site is inside a region. We also compare this diffusion to its random walk counterpart.
